Paw Bhaji/ Easy Process To Make Paw Bhaji At Home

Paw bhaji. Make delicious Mumbai street style paw bhaji easily at home. Here is a very easy method to make paw bhaji. So enjoy street style paw bhaji anytime at home.

Pav bhaji (Marathi : पाव भाजी) is a fast food dish from India consisting of a thick vegetable curry (bhaji) served with a soft bread roll (pav). Its origins are in the state of Maharashtra.

Variations on pav bhaji include:

• Cheese pav bhaji, with cheese on top of the bhaji

• Fried pav bhaji, with the pav tossed in the bhaji

• Paneer pav bhaji, with paneer cheese in the bhaji

• Mushroom pav bhaji, with mushrooms in the bhaji

• Khada pav bhaji, with vegetable chunks in the bhaji

• Jain pav bhaji, without onions and garlic and with plantains instead of potatoes

• Kolhapuri pav bhaji, using a spice mix common in Kolhapur. Source – Wikipedia

As I mentioned above that recipe is very easy. I have used only cauliflower, potatoes and green peas this time. But you can use beans, carrots or any vegetables of your choice. Even you can use bottle gourd or lauki. Add some nutritious vegetables which your kids don’t like at all. They will happily enjoy the bhaji without recognizing the vegetables. I often do so 😃

Method

1. Rinse all the vegetables well. Pressure cook Cauliflower, potatoes and green peas with 2 cup water for 2-3 whistle. Let the pressure settle down on its own and let the vegetables cool down. You can use carrot, beans, capsicum or any vegetable of your choice. Sometimes I use bottle gourd or lauki too. A great way to feed healthy vegetables which your family members don’t like.

2. Grind ginger, garlic, tomato and green chilli. Make a smooth paste.

3. Take out the vegetables from the pressure cooker. Mash the boiled vegetables. Reserve the water we will use it later.

4. Heat oil and butter in a pan or wok. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add chopped onion and fry till onion becomes light brown.

5. Add ground paste. Also add salt, turmeric powder, Kashmiri red chilli powder and paw bhaji masala. Saute till oil leaves the sides.

6. Add boiled and mashed vegetables. Mix well. Add the reserved water from boiled vegetables. Mix well.

7. Add 1 cup more water and mix well. When it starts to rolling boil reduce the heat. Cook on simmer for 5-6 minutes.

8. Now switch off the stove. Taste and adjust salt if required. You can add little more paw bhaji masala if you want. Add lemon juice and mix well. Garnish with chopped cilantro or coriander leaves. Add a dollop of butter.

For Paw

1. Heat butter in a pan or skillet. Add little paw bhaji masala. Spread paw bhaji masala with a spatula on all over the pan.

2. Slit the paw horizontally with a knife. Place the paw on the pan cut side down. Rotate the paw so that it can absorb the butter. Press gently to toast.

3. Flip and toast the other side too. Serve toasted paw and hot bhaji with finely chopped onion, lemon wedges and butter.

Notes

1. You can use any vegetable of your choice. Sometimes I use bottle gourd or lauki and lauki haters also enjoy the bhaji happily without recognizing bottle gourd or lauki.

Recipe Developer Behind The Blog

Hello there!

I am Sujata Roy. A homemaker, a blogger, a passionate cook, a recipe developer, a home baker, and lastly a foodie.

Experimenting in the kitchen is what I love and enjoy doing the most. Specially experimenting with vegetarian dishes and egg-less cakes and cookies is what interests me more.

My loved ones are fond of vegetarian cuisines, so I have them in my mind whenever I dish out a new recipe.

However, I do not limit my experimental cooking to vegetarian recipes only, non-vegetarian recipe ideas are also dished out. And you can also get many healthy recipes in this blog, including different types of baking ideas with healthy ingredients. So enjoy healthy foods without compromising on taste.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Happy Cooking!
